baWTF Ambassadors Application
The baWTF Ambassadors Forum is a real and virtual space created by and for under-25 year old women+ and non-binary theatre artists and audience members. The intention and hope are to create an independent body within the larger Bay Area Women's Theatre Festival where the members can meet, initially through an online meetup and then in live session(s) where we can hammer our visions, debate perspectives, share support and develop working relationships with other future-forward theatremakers.
The age range is 18-25 emerging women+ (if you fall out outside that age range, please apply anyway and add a note about why the forum matters to you).
NOTE: the Ambassador Forum is being co-coordinated by you ("the Ambassadors") and baWTF Instigator and theatre professional Patricia Miller. She can be reached directly at
This festival is a unique opportunity to connect with a radical range of work and women+ theatremakers (see below) but it could be overwhelming. Ambassadors is a space to connect, process and question what emerges from this exciting three-month laboratory and in particular Amplify! - our 24-Hour Performance Marathon (see below). There will be opportunities for networking but most of all for inspiration and connection.
Check out the press release:
The Ambassadors program is free to join but participation is expected. The group (20 maximum) will have free tickets to our Launch Event (with advance reservation to welcome you to baWTF) and to Amplify! but the trade off is commitment to two (2) three-hour volunteer shifts across the Festival calendar. These shifts will not coincide with Ambassador Forum meetups and you can select where/when you can help out.
MEETINGS PLANNED SO FAR:
1. VIRTUAL INTRO via google slides to create cohort group by Sunday March 9.
2. LIVE MEET UP #1 the third week of March (mid reading series period).
3. LIVE MEET UP #2 the afternoon before Amplify! (begins Saturday April 18).
4. LIVE MEET UP #3 before the Festival wrap up.
THE FESTIVAL INCLUDES:
New plays, devised works, and classical plays written by women+ or non-binary playwrights, including a Classical Reading Series (plays written from the Restoration era to the 1930s) and a Women of Color Reading Series (comprised of contemporary plays by local women+ of color)
· Full productions produced by participating Bay Area theater companies and promoted by baWTF
· Workshops and forums
· AMPLIFY! - a 24-hour Celebration of Women+ in Performance
April 18 - 19, 2020
Saturday 6pm - Sunday 6pm
ON ALL THREE STAGES at Brava Theater Center, 2781 24th Street, San Francisco, CA 94110
A performance marathon of theatre works written by, directed by and created by women+ and non-binary artists with a minimum of 50% woman+ or non-binary performers, including solo works, stand up, short plays, staged readings, devised works, musicals, improv, clowning, workshops and more.
The Bay Area Women's Theatre Festival's mission is to create, produce, and promote extraordinary theatre by women+ and non-binary artists.
***A Note on Inclusion (Thank you to the Statera Foundation for development of this language.)
Women: We recognize the limiting nature of the binary use of woman. We use the term “women+” to represent the expansive definition of women to include women+, womyn, womxn, wimmin, womin, woomin and trans persons. Our artists include women+, non-binary and genderqueer folx.
baWTF welcomes you.
Intersectionality: baWTF works through an intersectional lens for gender parity. We understand and acknowledge that systems of oppression and discrimination are interdependent and span all social categorizations such as race, class, gender, ability, and sexual orientation as they apply to a given individual or group. Addressing one spoke of systematic discrimination or disadvantage means holistically addressing them all.
