Empowering Males High School Community Cabinet Application

The Empowering Males High School (EMHS) will be opening its 9th grade next fall in SY16-17 at the Ron Brown site in Ward 7 and will add a grade each subsequent year through 12th grade. The school will be DC’s only all male, college-preparatory, citywide high school that places significant emphasis on Humanities and Classical Languages. The school will ensure that every young man graduates with the skills necessary to be successful in college and career. For more information about the school, please contact EMHS@dc.gov.

As a new school, we are seeking applications from the community to join the Empowering Males High School Community Cabinet. The EMHS Community Cabinet will be a unique group, in that the group will include members from all wards to reflect the citywide nature of the school. Additionally, because construction will be beginning as we plan the school, the group will also serve as the School Improvement Team (SIT) and will therefore work with the school leadership to provide input on both school programming and facility design. Examples of topics covered are school name and mascot design, colors selection, recommended community partnerships, and other elements of school programming. Design and construction topics include a review of the Educational Specifications (Ed Spec), building design and program layout, and construction phasing.
