2021-2022 GYM Program - Youth Leader Application
Thank you for your interest in our Global Youth Mentor (GYM) Program!

This program gives motivated students the opportunity to become Youth Leaders and execute an independent research project for a positive environmental change in their community. Youth Leaders are paired with Mentors - scientists, policy makers, environmental experts, and volunteers from around the world – and are directed through change-based projects. GYM project ideas range broadly, but their objectives are always the same – lasting, systemic, quantitative change. Youth Leaders can work with Mentors to develop their own projects or can select from our Project Models which focus on:

• Local Legislation
• Microfiber Intervention
• Plastic Utensils
• Cafeteria Trays
• Community Clean-Up
• Hydration
• Community Orchards & Gardens
• Reusable Bag Campaign

Youth Leaders who join GYM are onboarded onto our program’s online platform and walked through expectations, project basics, and community. Our online platform is home to all Mentor and Youth Leader communications, provides parents access, and is monitored by our team internally. [NOTE: As the pandemic continues to influence education culture, our team is committed to researching and implementing the remote learning practices and digital communication strategies that will provide students with the best learning experience possible].

We are seeking out self-driven students, currently 12 to 18 years old, who want to make a change in their community and can commit time to this project. The Youth Leader position is part-time, remote, unpaid, and contracted from August 2021 to June 2022. Students will need to commit to researching, developing, and completing an independent project during the program. Additionally, students will be required to update, work with, and learn from their paired Mentor for at least one hour every week.

This is a great opportunity for students to gain real world experience, diversify their ways of thinking, advance their telecommunication literacy, and strengthen their resume or college application. Through one-on-one mentorship, the GYM Program provides students with educational resources, networking opportunities, and global perspectives on environmental crises, while also helping them to productively engage with their community to enact positive change.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BEING A GYM YOUTH LEADER, please fill out this application to be considered for the program. Make sure to give a detailed explanation of your qualifications, experiences, and goals so that we can accurately determine if you will be a good fit for the program. You will receive an email about your application status once it has been processed.
