Thank you for your interest in becoming a board member for the Glebe Neighbourhood Activities Group. As the hub of our neighbourhood, we are committed to creating an inclusive and diverse board that truly reflects the community we serve. Board members play an essential role in the strategic direction, governance, and sustainability of our centre. You can review our Mission and Values at https://gnag.ca/about.
Eligibility Requirements:
Governance Experience
It is preferred that new members have prior Board/governance experience, but is not a requirement. Board candidates must understand the responsibilities of being a board member and have the necessary experience to contribute to board decision-making and oversight.
Desired Skills
The GNAG Board seeks to represent the community that we serve in its diversity and enthusiasm. The Board continually assesses our skills and feels that we would benefit from prospective members having experience in human resources, childcare/caregiving/healthcare sectors, or the legal field. However, we are open to individuals with a variety of backgrounds, so please don't hesitate to apply even if your expertise lies outside these areas.
Time Commitment and Expectations
Board members are also expected to contribute to the organization by:
Attending and actively participating in all Board and respective committee meetings;
Attending GNAG social events from time to time;
Assisting GNAG staff with community events from time to time.
The GNAG board meets in person on the third Wednesday of each month from approximately 7pm to 8:30 pm, as well as an AGM in October. Meetings take place at the Glebe community centre, located at 175 Third Avenue, Ottawa. Board work is supported by Board committees and we are looking to have members participate and/or lead a committee.
Process for Submitting Expressions of Interest
The Nominations Committee will accept applications until July 31st 2025. The committee will review all applications following the close of the recruitment period and will be in touch with all applicants again in September. Successful applicants would be invited to join the board at our AGM in October.
Please complete the application below to be considered for a position on the Board. We encourage individuals from all backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives to apply.
