MSCA All-State Speech Team - 2024
Minnesota Speech Coaches Association All-State Team
Purpose: The mission of this program is to recognize students who have achieved at an elite level, while also providing significant service to the speech community.
Administrator: This program will be conducted by by the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association, with the President Elect and MSCA Exec Board, serving as the administrators for the MSCA.
The requirements have been adapted from their original creation because current seniors did not have an opportunity to compete at the cancelled 2020 MN State Speech Tournament (and in many cases their 2020 subsection/section tournaments).
2024 Qualifications: Students who wish to be recognized as a member of the all-state team must meet the following requirements:
1. In their senior year.
2. At least 3 years as a team member.
3. No MSHSL violations.
4. Attended at least 75% of the tournaments attended by the team during their career.
5. At least 8 tournaments placing in the top 25% in a competitive event during their career (Being a finalist in two or more events at the same tournament is still considered one tournament).
6. An MSHSL qualifying appearance (subsections/sections)
7. An MSHSL state appearance in career.
8. Student has provided extensive and excellent leadership service to the team
9. Student has been a positive force on the team and in the speech community.
10. Be able to demonstrate at least three different instances of using their speech skills outside of this activity. Examples can include NHS, Student Council, Church, One-Act, School Play, etc.
11. Be coached by and nominated by a current member of MSCA.
Timeframe: Applications will be immediately accepted and conclude on April 16. Application documents may be available sooner, based on the actions of the administrators of the program for MSCA. The All-State team will be announced right before the 2024 MSHSL State Speech Tournament.
Award: Students selected for this honor will receive a certificate and a commemorative lapel pin. Pins may be picked up by the coach at the state tournament. Certificates will be emailed to the nominating coach.
