Do you love sharpies and the smell of freshly printed work hot off the Xerox machine? Are you inking up comic cells in your journal and wondering how to publish your work in an accessible format? Join us for this fun and inspiring workshop on how to make zines, comics and other forms of independent media! During this workshop, we will look at independently published zines and comics, and make our own! We will learn how to use radical styles of publishing to create and copy our own totally unique works.
Camp Instructor, Katie Heffner, is a recent graduate of the Library and Information Science Program at the University of Iowa. Over the past five years, she has researched science fiction fandom, punk rock communities, zines and comics. Beyond her scholarship on subcultures and fandom, Katie has taught a variety of zine workshops with youth in the Iowa City area since 2015. She loves cats, especially a pair of kittens she will be adopting, affectionately named “Brother” and “Sister.”
