Call to Artists: Utility Box ProjectRamona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project, Ramona, San Diego County, CAThe H.E.A.R.T acronym helps promote economic stimulus and downtown revitalization through murals reflecting our history and culture to be located on or near Main Street in Ramona. The acronym stands for: H = History and Hiking Trails, E = Equestrian Industry, A = Arts, Antiques & Agriculture, R = Rural Country Vistas & Drives, T = Tasting Fine Wines and Cuisine. Please check our web site, www.ramonamurals.com for pictures of our completed murals and additional information about the Ramona Heart Mural Project.
This project is to paint 17 Utility Boxes along Main Street Ramona from 4th to Day Street, the subjects of the art to follow the H.E.A.R.T. acronym.
Eligibility: Open to all members of the Ramona Art Guild, and art students at either of Ramona’s middle school or high schools who will accompany the professional artist as an apprentice. All artists and students interested in this project are encouraged to apply. Artists and students should submit a bio with photos showing their art experience. All submissions must be their own completed original artwork.
Budget: An honorarium based on the size of the Utility Box (Small, Medium or Large from $100 to $300) will be provided to artists and students to share. Donations for paint, steel wool & wire brushes are being sought but Artists and students will use their own brushes and other supplies.
Project Description: These mini-murals will be painted directly on the assigned boxes. Detailed instructions will be supplied to the Artists upon selection. It is hoped that a Ramona Art Guild member will be paired with an art student whenever possible to create the art piece as a joint project.
Submission deadline: All artists and students interested in being considered should submit their application and images of their own original art examples. Images must be emailed to HEARTUBRamona@gmail.com.
Upon selection, Artists will be notified of their assigned Utility Box (in some cases 2 boxes close to each other), and their colored concept drawings will be due within 10 days. All work on the assigned Utility Box shall be completed no later than 30 days after final approval. Note, as with the murals, each art work shall have at least one “heart” icon hidden within it.
