Our foster families are the backbone of our organization. We do not have a boarding location in Colorado Springs to house animals overnight, so these dogs rely on foster homes as their home between homes. By opening up your home to foster dogs, you are not only helping to save lives, you are providing the individual attention and love these dogs desperately need. Once you have completed your foster application online, our foster coordinator will get in touch with you, go over the rules and regulations, and answer any questions you may have. Although fostering is a lot of work, it is a very rewarding experience. By participating in this program, you are saving lives and helping them find the families they’ve been longing for.
Care for foster dogs includes feeding according to size and needs, exercise according to energy levels, and positive socialization.Foster homes are asked to not only provide care for dogs, but transportation to veterinary appointments and adoption events. These appointments and events are crucial to our mission and vision. The foster application is designed to help the foster coordinator match you with the best animal for your needs and schedule. Even those with a full-time job can foster! Please read our FAQ for more information before applying.
Together, we can save them all.
In order to make a well-educated match between a potential foster and rescue pet, please complete the foster application thoroughly and in detail. Completion of an application doesn't guarantee you will be paired with a dog, nor is it an obligation for you to foster one. A foster coordinator will contact you within the next 48 hours. You will also receive an emailed version of the form. If a field is not applicable then please indicate "N/A." You will have the opportunity to explain any answers, or provide additional information at the end of the form.
IMPORTANT - By completing this application you agree to the following:> To provide a BarkaBull representative access to all parts of your home and property for home inspection before your application to foster is approved.
> For inspection purposes, an authorized BarkaBull representative has free and unimpeded access to the foster home at any and all times deemed necessary to determine the welfare of the animals. This includes any portion of the home, outbuildings, pens, yards or any other area that animals are believed to have been or currently being kept, handled or transported.
> You understand that you may be required to provide foster care to your foster animal for an extended and indefinite period of time.
> You are over 21 years of age
> You understand that BarkaBull provides no guarantee as to the health of your foster animal and that your foster animal may have medical needs, socialization problems and may not be housebroken.
> You understand that you are fostering this animal for BarkaBull and that you do not have any right of ownership over the foster animal.
> You agree to provide your foster animal with Veterinary Care as authorized by BarkaBull. You will not arrange or pay for any elective veterinary care for your foster animal without the express consent of the authorized BarkaBull representative.
> You agree to immediately return any foster animal in your care to BarkaBull at the request of its authorized representative at any time for any reason. If BarkaBull is forced to undertake legal action to enforce this provision of the agreement, I agree to reimburse BarkaBull for all court costs and attorney’s fees conducted with such an action.
> The animal(s) will be considered a household companion not as an outside pet and you will provide it with a reasonable amount of time to adjust to new surroundings.
> You agree to keep all necessary ID tags on foster dogs for the entire foster period.
> You will not allow the animal, if unaltered, to have access to animals of the opposite sex.
> You will not take puppies less than 6 months of age to dog parks or other public and potentially contaminated areas.
> You agree to immediately notify BarkaBull in the event that the foster dog goes missing and to aid in all recovery measures possible (i.e. hanging flyers, driving around, asking neighbors) until the pet is found.
> You will not relinquish the dog to another person, rescue, shelter, relative or any medical or experimental laboratory or similar organization.
> You will notify a BarkaBull representative of any upcoming move and change of contact info. If you move, an inspection will need to be done at your new residence before the foster pet is allowed to be there.
> You understand that as long as you provide foster care for your foster animal to BarkaBull's satisfaction, you will be given the first right of adoption of the foster animal if BarkaBull decides to place the foster animal up for adoption.
> You will adhere to all relevant zoning and animal control codes and ordinances, whether local, county, or state.
