Latinas Increasing Political Strength (LIPS), a program of the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR), is a leadership institute designed for Latinas, by Latinas. Our goal is to empower young women into taking action on issues they care about. The program is open to youth 16-21 years old in the Denver metro area, and engages participants in a vibrant community of activists. Part of this community-building component is being matched with a mentor who will share their interests or professional goals and be an active participant at LIPS events.
Mentors will participate in a mentors-only Mixer in January, then be matched with a mentee in February. From then until graduation in May, the LIPS cohort and mentors will meet several times during events, one-on-one with their mentees, or during shared volunteer opportunities. Mentors are also invited to propose workshops for the cohort. In the past these have included topics such as professionalism or fundraising for nonprofits, and are presented during the bi-weekly Saturday workshops.
For the participants, the capstone experience of the program includes traveling to Washington D.C. to put their new skills to use! Mentors who have met the terms of the Mentor Agreement may be invited to chaperone the D.C. trip based on need but is not guaranteed.
Applications for Spring 2016 LIPS mentors are due January 20th. Once you've submitted the Application Form, please submit your letters of recommendation via email, fax, or postal mail. Contact info is at the bottom of this form.
