We are intellectual workers who have taken up a particular role in the shared responsibility of imagining another world.  We are readers who have often found the creativity, critical analysis, and transnational reframing we need for our work in the tools we call books and journals published by Duke University Press.

We place the work of our lives, our most troubling questions, our most audacious challenges and imaginative solutions into chorus with each other as authors of books and editors of journals published by Duke University Press.

What comes through the collective of people, processes and decisions known as Duke University Press are some of the most important critiques of neoliberalism, histories of struggle, and radical re-framings of relation that exist at this time in print.  

And we support the possibility that an institution that stewards so many different published forms of institutional critique would embrace its own transformation and its continued role in the transformation of academic labor and publishing.

As Duke University Press authors and journal editors we would love to know that not only are our books and journals moving into the world alongside the work of our revolutionary colleagues on the cutting edge, but that the way the work of moving thought into print happens logistically is accountable to the dignity, collectivity and justice that we hope this work will make more possible on the planet. We see all staff at Duke University Press as our crucial and esteemed collaborators and we want them to have what we all deserve, which is collective voice and power in the institutions that shape our everyday lives.

For these and infinite reasons, we as authors and book and journal editors published by Duke University Press, support the workers of Duke University Press in their decision to create a union and to activate their combined power to ensure that their workplace reflects the aspirations of our collective dreaming.
