Call for Expressions of InterestICOMOS Experts for International Heritage Projects

ICOMOS is seeking Expressions of Interest from ICOMOS members in order to expand and diversify its pool of experts contributing to its international heritage projects.

At ICOMOS, we lead and collaborate on international projects to safeguard cultural heritage by combining expertise, innovation, and sustainability. Partnering with organisations worldwide, we engage in capacity building, research, and advocacy to protect historic sites and celebrate cultural diversity. By sharing ICOMOS’ best practices and knowledge, we help integrate heritage preservation into broader sustainable development efforts, ensuring it remains a vital part of communities’ lives.

This Call for Expressions of Interest is intended for ICOMOS members wishing to engage in projects coordinated by ICOMOS Headquarters. This work requires diligence and the highest professional and scientific standards. 

Please note that this Call is not for a specific project nor does it refer to the selection of ICOMOS World Heritage roles (advisors, mission experts, desk reviewers). Rather, ICOMOS members who reply to this Call will be part of a list of experts who may be contacted for future ICOMOS international projects.


Main Duties and Responsibilities 

The main tasks of experts engaged in ICOMOS’ international projects include contributing to the project development and proposal submission, delivering ICOMOS’ project activities by carrying out assigned tasks and actions, providing input to achieve project deliverables and results, and collaborating with ICOMOS Headquarters on project reporting and communication. 

If selected to contribute to a project, experts will be expected to apply their scientific expertise objectively and thoroughly, grounding their contributions in relevant ICOMOS doctrinal and guidance documents, as well as in the latest scientific research in their respective fields.

Working arrangements may vary, depending on the project. ICOMOS experts are generally remunerated through consultancy contracts, with payment terms based on the nature and scope of the work. 


Requirements

The requirements for experts working on projects with ICOMOS Headquarters include: 

  • ICOMOS Membership.

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in one or more cultural heritage fields and engagement in cultural heritage projects.

  • Openness and empathy in recognising, respecting, and valuing the differences that arise from cultural diversity.

  • Excellent written and spoken command of one of the working languages of ICOMOS, English or French. Proficiency in both languages, as well as in Spanish, will be considered an asset.

  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within multi-cultural environments. 

  • Ability to work under pressure and to adhere to strict deadlines.

  • Work experience at the regional or international level will be considered an asset.

Procedure

ICOMOS welcomes Expressions of Interest from all its ICOMOS members who fulfil the above requirements and wish to contribute to projects for the conservation and protection of cultural heritage sites around the world. 

Please note that replying to this Call only declares your interest in engaging in ICOMOS projects and does not automatically mean that you will be contacted by ICOMOS Headquarters. If an opportunity arises that matches your profile, we will contact you to propose the project assignment and check your availability.
