Since late January, in response to Executive Orders and directives from the Trump Administration, the federal government has removed or modified thousands of webpages and resources containing a wide range of data and information from public health agencies. In response to this, AcademyHealth, along with eight other plaintiffs, has joined a federal lawsuit seeking to restore access to this critical data.
Washington State Medical Association et al. v. Kennedy et al. seeks to restore the removed data and establish legal protection against future efforts to suppress public health information. Read more in AcademyHealth's
press release.
We already have a strong case—our legal arguments are grounded in constitutional protections and backed by the real-world implications of lost access to data. However, based on prior rulings, including the Doctors for America case, we anticipate that the court may limit its remedy to restoring only those datasets whose removal is shown to have caused concrete harm.
That’s why we’re asking for your help. Specific, documented examples of harm caused by data removal or alteration will strengthen the case and increase the likelihood that more datasets are restored. If your work has been directly affected by these changes, we invite you to share your experience through this Google form. We are especially interested in understanding how the loss or alteration of this information has affected not only research, clinical practice, or public health workflows—but also the health, safety, and well-being of the people these efforts are meant to serve.
Please fill out this form by August 8, 2025, to have your information included.
