Vox Discussions-Robotics and responsibilities

“A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.” Isaac Asimov’s First Law of Robotics

Humanity is no stranger to robotics and automation. For decades, specialized robots have done repetitive jobs for us in manufacturing, and through skilled surgeons and operators acted in places no human can reach.

However, with more and more general purpose robots, often acting without qualified supervision, who is responsible for accidents? With engineers being less and less involved in directly programming the logic, general purpose robots being more and more open to public use in public space, what should we do to responsibly make and use robots? Are Asimov’s laws a good start? What are your thoughts about this?
