Summit County Lands & Natural Resources Volunteer Ambassador Program

NOTE:  The Ambassador program is currently FULL.  We are still accepting application but please be aware that you will be placed on a waiting list for future needs. (Summit County Staff are exempt)

What is the Lands and Natural Resources (“L&NR”) Volunteer Ambassador Program (“Program”)?  The Program will be a group of volunteers under the supervision of the Summit County Land and Natural Resources Department (”County”) that will  promote conservation stewardship of the 910 Ranch (“Ranch”) by educating the public about permitted uses of the property and by monitoring public use of the Ranch for possible conservation violations.

Volunteer Opportunity:  The County is seeking individuals who are motivated to act as Ambassadors for the Ranch. Ambassadors will monitor the public's compliance with trespassing, hunting and other restrictions on the Ranch. They will have exclusive access to the property for monitoring purposes. Ambassadors will also act as educators by teaching the public about permitted property usage and stewardship goals.

This is not an enforcement position. If volunteers encounter illegal activity, they will report any observations to the Summit County Sheriff's Office and/or County staff, as instructed.  Volunteers will not approach anyone suspected of poaching or who may be armed.

Ambassadors are required to commit to serving in the Program for a minimum of eight (8) hours per month for a minimum of six (6) months per year. County employees are exempt from this requirement, other exceptions may be considered.

Each volunteer may be accompanied by no more than one (1) dog.  Summit County Code section 5-1-9 requires that all dogs must be leashed or under strict control by electric collar at all times.  Dogs must be well behaved, under the volunteer's control, and must not harass wildlife. This privilege man be revoked at any time or for any reason.

Please fill out this form to express your interest in the program.  Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis or until a maximum of twenty-five (25) volunteers is met. Candidates will be reviewed by the County to determine eligibility based on availability and interest. Selected candidates will be required to complete an orientation/training administered by the County.
