Mentor a student or early career science writer at ScienceWriters18, Washington, D.C.
Many successful science writers can point to others who influenced them profoundly or changed the trajectory of their careers. Often this was through a brief encounter or a kind gesture that, to the giver, seemed a small thing. This #SciWriMentoring activity is geared at engineering some of these moments during ScienceWriters2018, with a social media twist. Mentors and Mentees are encouraged to tweet a tidbit from their time together with #SciWriMentoring.

First offered at ScienceWriters2016 in San Antonio, this session was such a hit with students and NASW member volunteers that we had more people than the allotted space could accommodate. This year’s session will again pair undergraduates, graduate students and science writers new to the field with science writers farther along in their careers.

Organizers: NASW Education Committee Co-chairs Czerne Reid, Lecturer, University of Florida College of Medicine and Ashley Yeager, Associate Editor, The Scientist
