PDX Music Volunteer Program Waitlist
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer in the music program at Portland International Airport. Please fill out this form if you meet our current criteria (18+ and willing to volunteer once per week, minimum 1 year commitment, and can pass a criminal background check as all performance locations are post-security) and would like to be added to the Wait List.
Our PDX Music Program offers musicians the opportunity to showcase their talents while creating a relaxing atmosphere for our passengers. The program was launched in 2002 (shortly in the wake of 9/11) by members of our Volunteer Information Program (VIP) who asked if the Port would provide a piano so they could ease passengers during a difficult time for the travel industry. Since then, the program has taken on its own brand identity and grow to over 30 musicians who play shifts as early as 5am and as late as 12am).
Musicians are not paid by the Port of Portland (which owns and operates the airport); however, they retain 100% of the revenue from the sale of their CDs/Digital Music – if they choose to sell their music. When auditions are held, performers are evaluated, considering the following performance aspects:
• Suitability for the PDX environment; operational needs of the airport are paramount, and a low-key volume is very important
• Contribution to the overall mix of music options at PDX
• Professionalism/Music quality
