Parent Homework Survey
At Valley Central and across our nation homework is a significant point of discussion. The best practices to approach homework have changed over the last decades due its the impact on low-socioeconomic students, the changes to many household structures with two parents working outside the home, the shifts in what content is taught versus what parents learned, and how learning is transforming into the 21st century with more of a focus on collaboration and critical thinking. Memorization and “drill and kill” are not the needed skills of this generation; nor does the research support such as a contributing factor to student success.

Although it sounds very straight forward, making changes to homework requires a shift in the mindset of students, teachers, parents and the larger school community. The shift includes the creation of personalized learning environments, continued professional development in best practices, and changes to the traditional grading paradigms.

At Valley Central High School, we have conducted numerous surveys to staff and students and NOW WE NEED TO HEAR FROM THE YOU – THE PARENTS. The District is looking to revise its homework policy during this school year by looking at the current research, providing ongoing staff professional development and educating the greater community about best practices. We are asking that you take a few minutes to complete the following survey in order to better inform our path to continued student success and school improvement here at Valley Central.

Please note: This survey pertains to Valley Central High School students only. Please consider your child’s experience for the current school year (2018-19) and all responses are anonymous. Participation in this survey is voluntary, but if you choose to participate we thank you for taking the time to do so.
