All comedians accepted for showcase performances will be given at least two showcase spots and the option to perform in other shows if they chose to volunteer to be considered for inclusion (i.e. roast battle, movie critique, storytelling) as well as entry to workshops on topics important to working comedians and a variety of comedian exclusive events. Comedians selected for the festival each get a free festival shirt, free admission to all showcases, discount advance tickets to headliners (or the option to see them for free when venue capacity and contracts allow), entertainment and some food. All comedians can also elect to lodge with local Detroit comics to save a little extra money.
Submissions will be judged on the strength of a 5 minute clip by a blind panel of 8 judges, five scores per clip, the highest scores will be invited to the festival. Clips longer than 5 minutes will likely not be viewed in their entirety. At this time we are only accepting clips of stand up comedy, not groups, sketch or podcasts.
Early Submissions will be open from January 21-March 10($20). Regular submissions will be open March 11-April 29($25). Late Submissions will be April 30-May 31($30). Responses will be sent out by early June.
Motor City Comedy Festival is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to educating the community on comedy and performance meaning your donations for submissions fees are tax-deductible.
