Hi, my name is [name] and I am an immigrant/child of immigrants/descendant of immigrants/ concerned individual. I am writing to express my concern and opinion relating to the Department of Homeland Security’s proposed rule change on “Public Charge” policy. I strongly oppose the Public Charge rule proposed by Department of Homeland Security. I am appalled by the Administration’s attack on human dignity by limiting immigrant access to basic necessities such as healthcare and food stamps. This proposal would have civil and immigrant rights ramifications by severing traditional pathways to family reunification, and imposing stringent limits on permanent residency to reduce green card holdership. It is an attack that would disproportionately impact children and women, undermine public health, and threaten the social and economic sustainability of this country. Expanding public charge reflects an anti-democratic gesture by the Trump Administration, and is a gross violation of basic human rights to shelter, health, and food. I urge you to withdraw the public charge rule, which would undermine our nation's future and go against our values. Thank you for resolving this issue and allowing immigrant families and children to thrive.
