1. Register with COCA. (It’s free.) https://www.english-corpora.org/coca/ . Read the Overview—PDF Overview and Five minute tour. Try using the corpus in one of the six ways with vocabulary from one of your classes. What are your first impressions of this tool? Do you think this tool can be of use to you and/or your students? If so, how would you use it?

2. Look through The General Service List http://jbauman.com/aboutgsl.html http://www.newgeneralservicelist.org/ and the Academic Word List https://www.wgtn.ac.nz/lals/resources/academicwordlist Do you think these lists can be of use to you and/or your students? If so, how would you use them?

3. Add at least two new to you activities to the list of activities for reviewing vocabulary/grammar that we brainstormed in class. Look online or in textbooks /teacher resource books for these activities. Briefly explain each one. If possible, try using one of these new activities—or one on the list that is new to you—in class or as a homework task. If you do use the activity, will you use it again? Why or why not?

4. Read the handout, “Teaching and Learning Multiword Expressions (Whatever these things might be)” from Dr. Eli Hinkel. (Dr. Hinkel was the plenary speaker at this year’s Hawaii TESOL Conference.) What information in this handout do you find interesting and/or useful?
