2021 Lava Island Fish Rescue

Hosted by the Deschutes River Conservancy and the Deschutes Basin Board of Control - and with the support of Trout Unlimited, Back Country Hunters and Anglers, Sunriver Anglers, and many more-

We come together as a community to save the stranded fish in the Lava Island side channel and return them to the Deschutes River following the finality of the irrigation season.

Please note: The date for this event is a moving target, but is projected to take place between October 18th and October 31st, 2021. The moment we have specifics, you will know too.

The Fish Rescue has "usually" been scheduled between 8am-4pm, but as we have learned, conditions change quickly and we will inform you of any/all updates. What is your relative availability? *

There are three types of volunteer duties. Do you have a preference? Note: this is just a preference. The health of the fish comes first and we all must yield to the professionals in charge. *

Fish "catcher" which requires isolated waders AND skilled knowledge of handling fish

Fish "carrier" which requires traction hiking boots and ability to carry heavy buckets of water

Fish "counter" which requires waders, the ability to count, and knowledge of fish species
