Position Overview:
We are seeking ML Engineering interns (full time), to join our team to develop, implement, test, and deploy reinforcement learning algorithms in simulations and real-world problems. Your daily tasks may take the form of team-projects on aggressive deadlines as well as individual work to lay the groundwork for future projects. You will collaborate closely with a team of wonderful people: world class researchers, data scientists, and domain experts.
This intake is for an internship position.
Requirements:
- Master's degree (or higher) with a research focus in Reinforcement Learning.
- Strong experimental intuition: ability to analyze failure modes (e.g., credit assignment, non-stationarity) and implement fixes.
- Proficiency in Python and JAX (preferred) or PyTorch.
- Ability to implement ideas and algorithms from RL literature.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Nice to have:
- Understanding of software engineering principles, including software architecture, design patterns, object-oriented programming, version control
- Familiarity with industrial control systems, automation protocols (e.g., OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus), and real-time operating systems.

Work Location: The position is in-person, in Edmonton Alberta. The office is at 1101-10065 Jasper Ave NW, Edmonton, AB. Work from home 2 days a week as needed. It is your responsibility to determine if you can legally work in Canada; we can provide some advice in this regard.
Start date: Flexible start date, to be decided on with the candidate
Pay: pro-rated amount of $70k CAD / year ($35k CAD for 6 months, $24k CAD for 4 months)
