Needs Assessment

Hello everyone! We would like to sincerely thank you for your time, input, and assistance as we continuously look to provide better educational opportunities to all students interested in career and technical education (CTE). Your input is extremely important in helping us decide how to improve CTE as we move into the “Brilliant Machine Age” in our country. In 2010, CTE leaders, advocates, and partners committed to a new vision for CTE, to “prepare students of all ages to succeed in education and careers – and enable the United States to flourish in a dynamic and increasingly competitive global economy." Here are some quick facts pertaining to CTE:

• Today, CTE is at the forefront of helping our nation meet the very real and immediate challenges of economic
development, student achievement, & global competitiveness, with over 14 million students enrolled in CTE
via public high schools and post-secondary institutions in all 50 states.*

• The average high school graduation rate for students concentrating in CTE programs is 90%, compared to an average
national freshman graduation rate of 75%.*

• High-risk students are 8-10 times less likely to drop out in 11th or 12th grades if enrolled in a CTE program compared
to general education.*

• Experts project 47 million job openings in the decade ending in 2018. About one-third will require an associate’s
degree or certificate, and nearly all will require real-world skills that can be mastered through CTE.*

• In the State of Michigan, over 111,000 students (34%) of 11th and 12th grade students were enrolled in a CTE
program during the 2012-2013 school year.*
