RGV Color Guard & Dance Solo & Ensemble

Event will cap at 98 Guard Entries and 98 Dance entries.

***Registration is no CLOSED for ALL EQUIPMENT ENTRIES.  Registration will remain open for DANCE ENTRIES ONLY. ****

Any equipment entries made on or after 3/14/20 will be placed on a WAIT-LIST.  If you wish to remain on the wait-list, when entries drop out your group will be entered.

ENTRY FEES:
$20 per Solo performer
$30 Duet/Trio
$40 Ensemble

Levels and Competitive Divisions
-Performers will compete in levels. Novice, Intermediate, Advanced, and Pro
-Each level will have the following competitive divisions. Dance, Flag, Weapon and Mixed (Flag and Weapon)
-Performers may compete as a solo, duo/trio and ensemble. Ensembles will consist of a minimum of 4 performers and a maximum of 8 performers.
-The highest level of performer in a routine will determine the level of the routine. Example: 1 Advanced performer and 7 Intermediate performers will determine the routine to be in the Advanced Level. One Intermediate Level performer and 7 novice dancers will determine the routine to be in the Intermediate Level.

Timing and Penalties
All routines will have a minimum performance time of 1 minute and 30 seconds and a maximum performance time 3 minutes.
Including set up/entrances/breakdown/exits, teams have a total of 5 minutes of floor time per routine.
Total routine time with set-up & breakdown of props/backdrops should not exceed time limits itemized above. A one point penalty per judge per minute will be assessed for exceeding routine times.
Any music which contains profanity or racial slurs will result in a 5-POINT PENALTY.


Performance Area
Performance area for ensemble color guard entries  is 96’ x 50’ (Regulation basketball court)
Performance area for dance entries is on the performing arts center stage
Performance area for solo, duo/trios is 48’ x 50 (Half basketball court) or 96’ x 50’ (Regulation basketball court)
a five foot safety zone will be enforced between the competition area and any spectator seating. If there is no spectator seating on the sides, then a safety zone will not be needed for those areas.


Music
Music must be emailed as a MP3, 7 days in advance.  Please bring a back up.

JUDGING
 A panel of professional judges will provide  critiques on all Ensemble, Duo/Trios and Solo Performances. Score sheets indicating the numeric scores for each caption will be provided.


Awards
Best in Class Awards for teams with the highest overall score in their category.
Choreography Awards for the most innovative team routines in all categories.
Outstanding Performer Trophies to the top three entries in each division.
 Winner Circle Trophy for the top scoring team in the competition.


Color Guard Solo and Ensemble Divisions
Solos, Duet/trios, Small Ensembles(4-8)

Novice Level
This competition level division is for beginning performers who have little or no experience competing. Performers may only be considered ‘novice’ if they are first year color guard members. Entries will be adjudicated, and High Score Awards will be selected within this level. Competitive divisions within this level are as follows:
Dance
Flag
Weapon
Mixed (Flag and Weapons)

Minimum performance time 1 minute and 30 seconds. Maximum performance time 3 minutes

Intermediate Level
This competition level is for the intermediate or ‘on the rise’ performers, and is recommended for performers who have had approximately 1-2 years experience. Entries will be adjudicated, and High Score Awards will be selected within this level. Competitive divisions within this level are as follows:
Dance
Flag
Weapon
Mixed (Flag and Weapons)

Minimum performance time 1 minute and 30 seconds. Maximum performance time 3 minutes

Advanced Level
This competition level is for top-level performers who perform at an advanced technical level. It is recommended that performers have approximately 3+ years experience. Entries will be adjudicated, and High Score Awards will be selected within this level. Competitive divisions within this level are as follows:
Dance
Flag
Weapon
Mixed (Flag and Weapons)

Minimum performance time 1 minute and 30 seconds. Maximum performance time 3 minutes

Pro Division
This competition level is for post high school students. It is recommended that performers have approximately 5+ years experience. Entries will be adjudicated, and High Score Awards will be selected within this level. Competitive divisions within this level are as follows:
Dance
Flag
Weapon
Mixed (Flag and Weapons)

Minimum performance time 1 minute and 30 seconds. Maximum performance time 3 minutes


Important  
The highest level of performer in a routine will determine the level of the routine.
