Lady of the Gardens Book - Author autograph and is number 40 out of 150 published copies
THE LADY OF THE GARDENS...Mary Elitch Long by Caroline Lawrence Dier, Hollywood 1932, 305 Pages, First Edition. Mary Elitch Long and her husband John came to Denver in 1882 dreaming of having zoos and gardens and, yes, even theaters. They had to set aside the idea of the theatre choosing instead to operate a restaurant in downtown Denver. Their dreams led them to an apple orchard able to support her husband's restaurant ventures. The couple instead ended up developing Elitch Zoological Gardens at Denver with a zoo, theater, and later an amusement park with a carousel. The Gardens would later develop into a full fledged amusement park enthralling visitors of all ages, and amusement rides that included Mr. Twister, a roller coaster ranked by enthusiasts as "one of the best in the world." This book is heavily illustrated with photos of early actors and actresses.
