Candid: Interdisciplinary Art Festival 

March 19 - April 10, 2024

Four events bring the moving image and the literary arts together.

You're invited to Moonplay Cinema's first festival. All events are free. Please use this form to register for events you are planning to attend. You can submit this form multiple times. 


Your RSVP is not required but it helps us prepare for our events.

Plan your visit: 

  • There are two designated accessible parking spots for those with disabilities at the rear of the building near the backdoor entrance and one in the side parking lot closer to the front door.
  • The front and back doors of the building have push-button access to open.
  • An elevator in the building takes visitors to all levels of the space.
  • There are accessible nongendered restrooms on each floor of the building.

Parking:

  • A free lot on the east side of the building is available for visitors to the Open Book facility. If the lot is full, there are metered spaces along Washington Ave or on 10th Street S or 11th Street S. Download the MPLS Parking App to make paying easier, or pay with cash or credit card at the pay stations. 
  • There are bike racks at the front of the building, and at two locations at the back of the building.

Transit:

  • Metro Transit has several routes that connect to the Open Book facility. The nearest corners are 10th Ave S, Washington Ave S, and 11th Ave S and Washington Ave S.
  • The U.S. Bank Stadium light rail station (serving the Blue and the Green lines) is 3 blocks from Open Book on the Chicago Ave side of the Metrodome. From there, walk north on Chicago Ave toward the river, then turn right on Washington Ave to Open Book.

Iconoclasmania Screening and Zine Release Party

An evening of short films and conversation with two award-winning filmmakers. Do I Qualify for Love? And Ordinary from Atlas O Phoenix. Bathroom Break, To Ana, and Daddy Buries Gram from Simone LeClaire. Moderated by Sabrina Ford
Grantwriting Workshop 
April 3, 6:30 PM
Room 203, 2nd Floor
Get insights on grantwriting from artist Jes Reyes. This free workshop will discuss artist statements and project-building practices. We will also review specific components of a grant proposal, such as a budget and work samples. Jes will also share about fiscal sponsorship, and You're a Filmmaker, You're an Artist, the zine that has inspired Candid. Participants will leave with resources to help them prepare for future grant applications, including a free copy of You're a Filmmaker, You're an Artist.
Cinecriture and Zine Release Party

We are celebrating the release of You're a Filmmaker, You're an Artist, Moonplay Cinema''s first literary-cinema zine, with a screening of short films.
