Directors will determine whether the absence is excused or not.
Members are expected to attend all rehearsals and performances. This includes outside of school rehearsals, class rehearsals, sectionals, masterclasses, clinics, pep rallies, concerts, contests, and/or meetings.
Families should avoid scheduling appointments at the same time as rehearsals and performances. Refer to the Timber Creek High School Band Calendar for scheduled rehearsal and performance dates/times.
Excusal from any rehearsal or performance must be approved through the TC Band Absence Request Form on the TC Band Website (this form). Absences must be requested at least 1 week in advance if they are not due to illness.
Request of excusal from any major event (football game, concert, contest) must be emailed to Mr. McCann (brad.mccann@kellerisd.net) & Mr. Pile (james.pile@kellerisd.net).
Excessive absences of any kind (excused or unexcused) from class or rehearsals outside of the school day will result in loss of varsity status and/or removal from performance opportunities.
FROM THE BAND HANDBOOK:
Before/After School Rehearsal (Marching Band - including Varsity members in Summer Band, Sectionals, etc.)
To be early is to be on time! Please be in place and ready to rehearse 10 minutes prior to the start time.
Students should always plan to arrive at least 20 minutes early to marching band rehearsals.
If you have more than one unexcused absence, you will be evaluated to be reassigned (loss of varsity spot, loss of performance privileges)
Three tardies = One unexcused absence
Attendance is taken at each rehearsal and is recorded
Emails are sent out for each absence
The following reasons for missing rehearsal can be excused:
Medical emergency or personal injury
Death in the family
Religious holiday
Special circumstances that are pre-approved by the director
Illness with doctor’s note
The following reasons for missing rehearsal are unexcused:
Work
Oversleeping
Transportation not arranged
Non-emergency appointments
Drivers license appointments
College visits
Concerts/opening day
Anything deemed unexcused by school personnel
Tutorials and club meetings
Club sports
Performances
All performances are required. Unavoidable circumstances that cause absences from performances must be approved in advance as soon as possible. Any student who misses a performance, regardless of reason, may have their role replaced by another band student.
Unexcused absences from performances may result in a student’s removal from the band program.
Everyone plays a vital role as a team member in the organization. Conflicts with school activities will happen and will be worked out. Clubs, organizations, tutorials, and make-up work is to be completed outside of band time. Students should communicate with teachers in advance to avoid double booking. In most cases, students are given schedules for the semester well in advance. Referring to the band schedule can greatly assist in preventing scheduling conflicts.
