Thank you for your interest in the Durham Wildlife Stewards! We are the new Durham County chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, formed in 2025. Our mission is to "empower our community to form a connection with their natural surroundings through adventurous and educational programming designed to preserve and reclaim habitat for wildlife in Durham County." What type of activities would you like to do with us? Examples: Hands-on work removing invasive plants from city parks or building small native gardens; educational events like the recent red wolf talk at the library; low-key hikes or nature walks with or without educational commentary; overnight outings to wildlife refuges; day trips such as Jordan Lake birding trips by kayak, etc. Your ideas will help us plan our events. 

What kind of DWS social occasions would you like to take part in? Please share your ideas. Examples: funny nature trivia events at a brewery, AKA "Birds and Brews;" nature walks; children's nature book circle time and/or  playtime in pretty natural settings; film outings; birding or butterfly walks; low-key home gatherings to show wildlife photos. 

Do you have a particular skill or expertise you'd like to share with us? For example, perhaps you can teach us about different animals' tracks, or about Native American or another ethnicity's traditional uses of plants and animals.  Maybe you can do a birdhouse-building workshop with info about the different birds who use them. Or you might have deep knowledge about the flora, fauna and waters of a certain part of Durham County.
