Does applying for the program confirm my participation?
No, the application does not confirm participation. As there are only limited
seats available, applications will go through a screening process and selected
applicants will be intimated through mail.
Participant Selection:
The participants would be shortlisted by the organising committee,
based upon their responses to this application form.
The selected participants will be intimated through email.
Age:
Preferred age group is 18-25 years.
However application is open to all.
What will be the medium of communication?
Both in Tamil and English depending on the convenience of participants.
Participants can choose to express themselves in the language they are comfortable with.
Food and accommodation:
A very basic accommodation, separately for men and women will be available within the campus.
Simple vegetarian food will be provided.
Usage of mobile phones:
Cuckoo does not have active network conncection.
The selected participants would be provided with a contact number in case of emergency.
Can one leave halfway through the program?
No. Only in case of a valid emergency and after a discussion with the organising team,
one may be permitted to leave halfway through the program.
Is there a dress code to be followed?
As the campus is situated among rural villages, it is essential to respect the culture but also be in comfortable clothing. Any loose clothing that covers the upper arm, midriff and knees at all times is mandatory for both men and women. ( Shorts not allowed ). Please avoid tight-fitting clothes such as leggings and jeans.
Note: This is not to disrespect any clothing style/culture,
but to ensure the comfort of work and respect for local culture.
How to reach:
'Cuckoo' is located in the foothills of Javadhu, at the junction ( Singarapettai ) where the state highway from Tiruvannamalai bifurcates to Bangalore and Tirupathur.
By Bus :
- From Tiruvannamalai: Take a bus towards Bangalore/Salem/Tirupathur and get down at Singarapettai.
- From Salem / Thirupathur / Bangalore : Take any bus headed to Tiruvannamalai. Get off at Singarapettai
By Train:
Jolarpettai / Thirupathur / Morappur / Thiruvannamalai / Samalpatti are the nearest stations.
By Road:
Do not follow Google maps. Once in Singarapettai, ask for Puliyanoor Village.
From there ask for Cuckoo.
Gift Structure:
‘Cuckoo’ as a movement is committed to various social activities on ground.
All these activities are completely funded by like minded individuals.
Your contribution will be used towards activities of Cuckoo Forest School.
For the ease of convenience of the participants, we have worked out a sliding scale.
This is inclusive of food, accomodation, workshop charges, maintenance and running overheads for the entire duration of the program.
From our experience, the minimum cost incurred to run the program works upto Rs.2500/- per participant.
Any amount beyond gifted by you, would be used to accommodate one selected participant per month, who is not able to afford the fees for genuine reasons.
If you want to attend, but cannot afford to pay you can still apply.
We might be able to accomodate, based on the donations we recieve.
Your presence is more valuable.
Notes:
• Drinking, smoking, drugs / any form of substance abuse is strictly prohibited inside and around the campus. Anyone found indulging in the above practices inside/around the campus, will be immediately terminated from the program.
• Campus provides basic first aid and assistance. In case of emergency, there are no hospitals available in nearby towns. Participants are requested to be informed about any medical conditions beforehand.
The organiser reserves the right to admit or deny anybody to the campus.
