In light of Rackham's recent
Statement on Rackham Graduate Faculty Values, Privileges and Responsibilities
which promotes positive relationships between U-M faculty and their mentees
, RSG believes it is an important time to further understand this dynamic and amplify student voices in the conversation. We designed this form as an opportunity for mentees to reclaim their story and take part in an advocacy effort aimed at addressing the faculty-mentee power dynamics that, while often providing an avenue for guidance and inspiration, can also become the source of inordinate stress and hardship during graduate school.
We want to know what your experience with your advisor has been (positive or negative) and how we can better advocate for you. Whether you are filling this out as a graduate student, postdoc, research staff, or alumni, we are here to listen and want to hear whatever details you are comfortable with sharing.
The purpose of this survey is to gather information about the current status of faculty-mentee relationships at the University of Michigan, while also giving an avenue to those who want to tell their story

Every question in this survey is optional. The quantitative survey in section 2 will remain entirely anonymous and will not be affiliated with your name or email address should you choose to provide them. In section 3, there is an option to write out your story in detail or to indicate that you would like to be interviewed in person. Here, you will have an opportunity to indicate whether or not you are comfortable with us sharing anonymized excerpts of your story or if you would prefer that it only be shared internally at the RSG to help us understand your needs in our advocacy effort.
