Workshop Description
What does it mean for our work as teachers when names of people and cities have become synonymous with hate, broken trust, and violence? How do we lovingly engage our students in critical, relevant conversations about these events and the systemic, institutional issues they represent? And how do we respond to concerns ranging from politics in the classroom to taking time away from coverage of required curriculum?

Join the Minnesota Writing Project for the Fall 2017 Workshop. We invite educators from all content areas, grades, and levels of experience as well as those working in other organizations to engage in conversation about these questions and their curricular and pedagogical implications. In place of easy solutions marketed as a one-size-fits-all, we offer a space to dialogue with other committed educators and to share and receive resources for your consideration. The event will begin with an opening activity to focus our work, and then move to small and large group conversations and resource sharing focused on what you have found helpful in your classrooms and the questions you wish to pose to fellow educators.
