Pooper Snoopers - Interest Survey
Dr. Anna Forsman and students Jennifer Liang and Madison Lin from Colby College are teaming up with Joe Siegrist of the PMCA to conduct a large-scale, community-based science project to investigate the dietary preferences of purple martins during the breeding season. To accomplish this, we are seeking volunteers from the purple martin landlord community to help us collect fecal samples from active purple martin nests during the 2025 breeding season. If you are interested in participating, we will send you a sample collection kit and detailed instructions. Samples will then be shipped back to Colby College for processing and DNA sequencing. Please note that this work will not involve any bird-handling. Fecal samples are to be collected from wherever they are deposited by the birds, inside the nesting cavity.
