York Music Hub Composition Project

York Music Hub are delighted to launch our online composition project. Please see below consent for joining in!

Open to any musician 14-18 from York and the surrounding area

The chance to connect with other musicians, through an open, accessible online interactive composition project. The first phase of the project will run over 5 weekly sessions 1 hour per week every Wednesday 11am
from April 22nd.

This is a composition and performance project designed for students around the GCSE standard or above.

Using the zoom platform we will start with virtual meetings and jam sessions leading towards performances and recordings of the minimalist piece "In C" by Terry Riley. This will then develop into composing new music for performance and recording specifically working around the latency problems of working online. You don't need a high tech knowledge, we will guide you through all you need to know. You will need some time, a device to connect to zoom, your instrument, an open mind and a sense of experimentation and adventure.

Sessions will take place on zoom, which should be downloaded prior to the session, ideally
on a computer/laptop but it is possible on a tablet or phone. (This is free to download and
use for participants).

Parents/carers will be given the unique code to join the session after agreeing to the safeguarding guidelines below :-

*The session should take place on an adult/shared family device
*The session should take place in a shared family space (not students’ bedrooms) and
students should be appropriately dressed
*Usual standards expected in schools and in person rehearsals re respecting others,
appropriate language and behaviour should be maintained
*Video and Audio may be recorded and shared, and by agreeing to the terms below you consent to photo, video and recording being shared by York Music Hub
