Travel/Course Fee Scholarship Application for Bringing the Classroom Outdoors (KPE 450/550) and Wilderness First Aid (KPE 207) Summer '24

The UMaine Outdoor Leadership program has been granted funding from the Onion Foundation to support educators who want to increase their skills around outdoor activities and learning through participation in the course Bringing the Classroom Outdoors and/or Wilderness First Aid in Summer 2024.  (Thank you, Onion Foundation!) This year both courses will happen in person in Oxford County, primarily (though not limited to) serving educators in MSAD 44 and MSAD 17. 

4.30.24 THE DEADLINE HAS PASSD TO ENROLL IN THIS COURSE Course Logistics for Bringing the Classroom Outdoors (KPE 450/550): The weekly  meetings will occur primarily at SAD 17 or SAD 44 schools (details on schedule will be sent to students) on Thursdays 4-7pm from May 9 through June 13 , and will also include a required weekend trip to Bryant Pond 4-H Camp (afternoon of Friday May 31 - afternoon of Sunday June 2). The days and evenings will be very full; staying overnight for the weekend will be expected. 

4.30.24 THIS COURSE IS STILL OPEN! Course Logistics for Wilderness First Aid (KPE 207): The WFA Course will also be held at Bryant Pond 4-H Camp from the afternoon of Friday June 7 - evening of Saturday June 8.  The course on Saturday will be a very long day; staying overnight at Bryant Pond on Friday will be expected.

This form serves two purposes and is required in order to register for either or both courses:
1. This is a scholarship application. The scholarship funds we have will cover the following for these courses:
  • All overnight, food, and facility/equipment costs for the weekend trip in KPE 450/550 (with the exception of a required $25 student travel fee).
  • All overnight, food, facility/equipment, books, and certification costs for KPE 207 (with the exception of a $25 student travel fee).
  • Tuition costs for KPE 207, which is a one credit course.
  • Please note: The scholarship funds do not cover tuition for the three-credit KPE 450/550 course.
2. This is an intent to enroll form. Enrollment in these courses is by permission and is limited to 15 students. Once you submit this form, Lauren Jacobs (Coordinator of the UMaine OL Program) will connect you with the link to enroll and grant permission for you to do so.
