Horizons at DCD Volunteer Application

Horizons offers mature high school and college students a volunteer opportunity to not only provide an important community service, but to also learn the basics of working with children while having fun. Volunteers will assist Lead Teachers and Teaching Assistants with children and participate in Horizons daily activities. A typical day may include academics, computers, arts and crafts, swimming, breakfast/lunch and sports. At the end of their time with Horizons, volunteers will be asked to provide a written summary including a brief personal reflection regarding their community service experience at Horizons. If you are accepted to volunteer at Horizons, a parental permission form will be required. This form will be sent to you once you are accepted.

The 2018 summer program runs from June 29th – August 9th. Volunteers must commit to the entirety of either Session 1 (June 28th - July 20th) or Session 2 (July 23rd - August 9th) as well as a regular schedule and daily assignment(s).

Assignments will include assisting with classroom activities, provide tutoring during academic lessons, attend field trips with the class, attend breakfast, lunch and swim with the class, as well as assist in the planning and implementation of "Fun Fridays." Please give careful thought to your availability during this time. Volunteering for Horizons is a serious commitment that should be met with a sense of professionalism and dedication.

Horizons volunteers must have completed at least the 8th grade.
All volunteers are required to sign the Code of Conduct
Must be able to commit to volunteer for either Session 1 or Session 2, be available to attend the mandatory training on May 11th and 12th, and commit to volunteering for either of our pre-program testing days (Saturday 2nd or June 9th). Strong applicants demonstrate a commitment to community service and volunteerism.
