January 19-24, 2020: Santa Cruz, CA ~ Application Deadline: August 2, 2019
This Leadership Institute is designed for teams of 2 from School Garden Support Organizations (SGSOs). A SGSO may be a nonprofit organization, university, government agency, foundation, school district, or other entity focused specifically on supporting garden-based learning for multiple schools in their region. SGSOs work to elevate the quality and sustainability of school garden programs across their region.

Each SGSO invited to attend will send 2 key leaders to the Institute. We are particularly seeking SGSOs that:

Primarily support elementary school gardens
Have relevance with racially and economically diverse communities
Have a primary focus on providing trainings for garden-based educators in their region
Plan to host garden-based professional development for educators in 2020
Are committed to enhancing the ways their organization assesses program outcomes
Plan to conduct or report on an assessment of their program outcomes in 2020

If you applied in previous years, and would like a copy of your previous application responses for reference, please email Amy Schwerdtfeger at admin@lifelab.org. Thanks!

Institute Fees and Financial Assistance
Thanks to generous support from Whole Kids Foundation, participants are only responsible to pay a nominal fee based on their organization’s capacity. Airfare stipends are also available to ensure that travel expenses do not present a barrier for attendance. Once participants arrive at one of our local airports, all lodging, meals (minus one dinner in town on your own), and airport-to-conference center transportation will be provided.
23. Based on the fee schedule below, what would the cost be for your team of two? *
24. Based on a quick internet search, what will it cost in airfare alone to get a team of 2 people from your organization to and from either San Jose, CA (SJC) or San Francisco, CA (SFO) airport from January 19 (by 2pm) - January 24 (AM or later departure)? *
Based on a Best Estimate
Your answer
25. Please add together the two numbers above (Q.23 Institute Fee + Q.24 Airfare) and enter that number below to get the total cost to your organization to send a team of 2 to the Institute. *
Your answer
26. Financial Assistance - - Once you land at San Jose or San Francisco airport, all of your lodging, ground transportation and meals while you're here will be covered, except for one dinner out at the restaurant of your choice. Knowing that, what amount of financial assistance would your organization require in order to send a team of 2 people to the Institute? *
For example, if your organization's total cost is $1,500 and your organization can afford $1,000, then you would require a $500 scholarship to offset the costs above, so you would write $500. If your organization has sufficient budget to cover your team's fees and travel enter "0."
Your answer
27. Optional: We continue to refine the model of this Institute, and would appreciate feedback about the sliding scale and travel stipends, if you'd like to provide any.
