ABOUT OUR 2025 JUBILEE CELEBRATION DAY
2025 is a special year in the life of our Southwark Archdiocese:
  • a Jubilee Year in the Catholic Church worldwide, with the theme of "Pilgrims of Hope"

  • the 175th anniversary of the establishment of the Southwark Diocese by Pope Pius IX in September 1850, as part of the restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England and Wales

  • the 60th anniversary of Southwark becoming a Metropolitan Archdiocese, and the appointment of Archbishop Cowderoy as our first Archbishop in May 1965.
To mark the 2025 Jubilee and these two major anniversaries, Archbishop John Wilson is inviting every person and parish in the Archdiocese to a Jubilee Celebration Day at Aylesford Priory on Saturday 7 June 2025, from 10 am to 5 pm.

We are hoping that several thousand people from around the Archdiocese will come to Aylesford in their coaches, cars and on the train for this wonderful celebration. Some people are even coming on foot, as part of the Archdiocesan walking Jubilee Pilgrimage which starts at St George's Cathedral on Monday 2 June with Mass at 10 am and arrives at Aylesford on the Friday evening!

WHAT'S HAPPENING
You can find out about the many activities to look forward to at our Jubilee Celebration Day here

HOW TO SIGN UP AS A VOLUNTEER
The volunteers we need: big events like this require an army of volunteers to ensure that things run smoothly and that everyone who comes has a safe, fulfilling and enjoyable experience. For example, we need:
  • Stewards  to help organise coach and car parking and to look after all aspects of safety and security across the whole site
  • Welcomers – to make people feel welcome, give them information and directions and answer questions - not just at the entrance as people arrive but throughout the day at various places around the site
  • Setter-uppers – to help with putting things up at the start and tidying them away at the end of the Day
  • Fetchers and carriers – to help do whatever odd jobs are needed during the Day, again at various places around the site
  • Other specialist skills – for example, as stage managers for our stages
How to sign up as a volunteer: if you are able to help us in any of these ways (or perhaps in others that we haven't thought about), simply click "Next" at the bottom of this page - that takes you to the form you need to complete and submit. (If you are completing the form for more than one person, please complete and submit it separately for each person in your group.) Please note: you must be 18 or over to volunteer.

What happens then: we will be in contact after you have submitted the form to give you more information. Of course we can't guarantee to give everyone the volunteering role that they would like – but we will try our best!
OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Location: Aylesford Priory - you'll find travel details and a map here. Please check if there is a coach coming from your parish - note that coaches must be pre-registered - email jubilee@rcaos.org.uk for details.

Data privacy: by submitting the Volunteer form, you will be consenting to each of the Celebration Day organisers holding and processing the personal data you provide in accordance with their respective Privacy Policy/Notice, which you can see on the relevant website: Agency for Evangelisation and Catechesis - Southwark Catholic Charismatic Renewal team

Safety and security: the safety and security of those attending at the Day, which is of paramount importance, will be the responsibility of our team of Stewards, reporting to and led by the Event Manager for the Day. By submitting the Volunteer form, you agree that (if you are a Steward on the Day) you will follow the instructions given to you by the Event Manager or your supervisors or (if you are Volunteer but not a Steward on the Day) you will follow the instructions given to you by the Stewards.
