2023 Barbara Ensley Award Application Form

The Award recipients will be announced in early December. The Award period will begin between February 1, 2023 and July 1, 2023 on a date selected by the recipient in consultation with a Trust advisor.

Applications are due by October 21, 2022.

Eligibility requirements:
You must be a dance artist who self-identifies as BIPOC
You must be a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident.
You must reside in the New York City area during the six-month term of the award.
You must have completed or expect to complete a college-level training program or the equivalent between January 2022 and June 2023.

You should articulate clear artistic goals and a vision for how this award will advance those goals.  Previous experience with Merce Cunningham’s work is not required.

To submit an application, you will need to submit each of the following as detailed below:
Narrative biography (200-300 words)
Statement of Interest (300-400 words)
Work Sample (2-5 Minutes)
2 Letters of Recommendation

Work Sample - Please provide a video sample of your current practice, performance, or choreography (2-5 minutes). All videos must be submitted as a viewable link on Vimeo or YouTube and not as a downloadable file. Please enter a link and password where we can view your work sample. Please also enter a brief statement (20-40 words) explaining why have selected this video. *
