Since August, the Executive Council of School of Music Montreal (SoMM) has been working diligently in order to continue our operations in a safe way. This year, we have committed to a zero-contact approach to our music lessons in effort to keep everyone involved with SoMM as safe as possible. However, this means that SoMM's operations will look a little bit different from years past.
All SoMM students will receive music lessons through live meetings with their teacher on Zoom/Webex. When filling out this form, students will be able to choose a recurring weekly time during which their lessons will take place; at this time each week, they will be joined with their teacher as well as fellow SoMM students and teachers on a live video call. These calls will include both time for group activities with other members of SoMM and individual lesson time in a breakout room with only your student and their teacher; however, a SoMM staff will be also on the call at all times should any issues arise. Students will also get to choose if they would prefer to learn voice, xylophone, ukulele, recorder, or percussion/practice pad or other instruments. These instruments will be rented to your student free of charge and will be distributed at the students' schools (so the distribution process from SoMM is contactless).
Please note, IF A STUDENT HAS ACCESS TO AN INSTRUMENT THAT IS NOT LISTED ABOVE (BROTHER HAS A GUITAR/FAMILY PIANO/ETC), PLEASE INDICATE THIS WHEN SELECTING AN INSTRUMENT. We have lots of SoMM teachers who teach a wide variety of instruments; however, our SoMM inventory does not have enough instruments to send to every student. If a student wants to learn another instrument AND has access to that instrument, we would be glad to facilitate this in their lessons.
We are planning for an end-of-year showcase where your student will have the option to send in a video of them performing a song or skill they learned from SoMM. This event is completely optional and will take place through a live Youtube stream. More information will come soon, but this is a fantastic way for friends/relatives in far-away places to tune in and watch your students' accomplishments!

In-person lessons will resume when current health restrictions allow. (Updated June 2021)
