Family Support Group Facilitator Training Application
Are you a family member of someone who lives with a mental health condition? Are you interested in learning skills to help support others? If so, you are the perfect person to be a NAMI Family Support Group facilitator!

The NAMI Family Support Group is a mutual support group for family members (parent, sibling, spouse, partner, adult child, caregiver, etc) of people who live with mental illness. Groups are confidential, led by trained peer facilitators, and free to attend. Weekly or monthly 90-minute meetings provide a supportive place for people to share their experiences and learn from others. While support groups are casual, there is a meeting structure to give all participants the opportunity to confront and discuss challenges, share resources and/or wellness strategies, and connect with one another.

Our next Family Support Group facilitator training will be held Saturday, November 23rd and Sunday, November 24th from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM in Anchorage. There is no cost to attend the training and breakfast and lunch will be provided. For people living outside of Anchorage, funds are available for airfare and lodging.

Please note: sending in an application does not guarantee a space in the training. Applicants will be called before the training and invited to attend. Applicants must be able to attend BOTH training days for the full duration to be eligible to attend.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Wednesday, November 13th

If you have any questions at any step in the process, even before you begin, please contact Lily Werts at or 907-272-0227.

I am 18 years or older.
I am a family member (parent, sibling, spouse, partner, adult child, caregiver, etc.) of an individual living with mental illness.
I can commit to facilitating a support group for at least one year. The time, energy, and expense of training each facilitator makes this a necessity. It is understood that unexpected situations may occur that will necessitate compassion and flexibility in this policy.
I like to co-facilitate a group. Groups are led by two trained facilitators.
I have a welcoming personality and am interested in sharing information with individuals as they face the challenges of having a family member living with mental illness.
I am a current NAMI member, or willing to become a NAMI member at least one week BEFORE training begins.
I agree to abide by NAMI policies and procedures and adhere to the fidelity of the NAMI Support Group model.
I will make every attempt to fulfill my volunteer commitment as outlined in the training application.
I understand that participation in training does not guarantee certification. NAMI state-level trainers determine if an individual has met all criteria.
I understand that I must attend BOTH training days for the full duration to be eligible to attend.
