The Strategies and Tools for Overdose Prevention (STOP) program at Wayne State University aims to prevent overdose deaths resulting from the use of heroin and other opioids.

In partnership with the Wayne State University Department of Emergency Medicine, the Center for Urban Studies has developed an overdose rescue training for community members. This training is led by AmeriCorps members who are part of the AmeriCorps Community Training for Overdose Rescue (ACT) program.

This training teaches strategies for recognizing signs of an overdose and properly responding to an overdose situation, including how to perform CPR, and how and when to use Narcan nasal spray - an opioid antidote medication. Trained participants receive Overdose Rescue Kits containing Narcan nasal spray and an information card summarizing key points of the training for the participant to reference during an overdose situation. This training typically takes less than one hour. There is no cost to participate.
