In this reflective workshop, participants will:
• Engage in activities and conversations, while exploring their own identity, power and privilege.
• Explore ways to use what you learn in order to be an effective ally and navigate conflict with empathy and understanding.
• Reflect on racism, oppression and biases and the harm that is created in communities when these exist.
• Brainstorm and create an action plan for practical steps towards being anti-racist, and an anti-oppressive, inclusive and equitable ally while and celebrating all identities.
About the Speaker
Laurel Boytim is the mother of two daughters, a settler on Turtle Island (Canada), and her ancestry is Norwegian, Slovakian, English, and Pennsylvania Dutch. She holds a Master of Peace and Conflict Studies from University of Waterloo, and a Certificate in Conflict Management and Mediation from Conrad Grebel University College, University of Waterloo. Laurel brings extensive experience in Mediation, Circle Training, Restorative Justice, Conflict Resolution, Coaching, Teaching, Social Justice, and Circle Keeping.
