The purpose of our network is to center and uplift the needs of Lifetime survivors in policy, advocacy, research, services, treatment and care and overall quality of life. The mission is to advocate for healthcare policy changes and ensure lifetime survivors are included in the development, decision-making, delivery and evaluation of the federal HIV policy and research agenda. Our vision is to increase awareness about the impact of HIV on people living with HIV since birth or early childhood at every stage of the HIV Continuum.
There were 37,968 new HIV infections in the US in 2018. Less than 1% or 65 of those new infections were from perinatal transmission. In 2018, there were 1,042,270 people living with HIV/AIDS in the U.S. This number is also very small, but 1,544 were amongst Lifetime Survivors under the age of 13. However, there is a bigger group of Lifetime Survivors that we believe gets left out and lost within the general population of people living and aging with HIV. The larger group of children who were born positive in the mid 80’s and 90’s who are now adolescents and adults. In 2018 there were more than 12,310 Lifetime Survivors over the age of 18 aging with HIV/AIDS.
This information does not include those of us who have contracted HIV through blood transfusion at birth or in early childhood. We hope to reach all 12,000+ of those Lifetime Survivors in the U.S. and beyond, as well as connect you all to our safe space, our community!
