FIGHT LIKE A GIRL - a documentary on warrior breast cancer fighters.

My name is Kiaya Hessler and I am a 2nd year film student at AIE (Academy of Interactive Entertainment) in Adelaide.

Like many families, my family has been affected by cancer. As a young woman, I feel connected with their stories and want to help empower them to tell them, showing the fighting spirit of these warrior women. I would like to produce a documentary on a few women’s journey through getting breast cancer, treatment and after.  My working title for this documentary is “Fight like a girl”.

My focus of the documentary is on the feminine aspect of treatment.  This would encompass their journey through diagnosis, treatment, side effects, potential loss of femininity and their role within their world as well as the mental toll of their journey.  I want the showcase the positives in their fight, inspiring women to embrace their femininity regardless of any changes that have affected their body or mind.

I would love to interview women at different stages on their journey, all stories are relevant, and this project is adaptable.

The documentary will have 2 key ideas, frank interviews about their experience and gaining a better understanding of who they were, their individual journey and who they are now. And a fun photo shoot full of colour, laughter and positivity, a celebration of those that have made the journey.

Part of the documentary will be a photo shoot.  We have the option to have someone do your make up as part of this, is this something you would be interested in ?
I want to hear your story, would there be parts of your journey you would not want to share?
If chosen as a interviewee, would you be willing to provide some photos to have added to the documentary?
