BUILD Application
BUILD (Building University Inclusion and Leadership through Diversity), is a weeklong immersion program in Winston-Salem that introduces first-year students to concepts of social justice, intercultural communication, and social change. If you have been dedicated to celebrating diversity, social justice, or social change, this program is for you!
The program is organized by Pro Humanitate Institute. In addition to staff support, one student who has served as a BUILD leader is chosen to coordinate the program. This year’s coordinator is awesome and a great role model for what leadership looks like on campus. In addition to the coordinator, there are 10 upper class leaders who serve as mentors. We accept participants on a rolling basis and, once accepted, you will be placed in a small group with a mentor for the week. The mentor will lead you in your service activities but will also be there to answer any questions you have about Wake, particularly about getting involved on campus.

The week begins with a great afternoon of team building games where you will start to get to know your fellow BUILDers. For the remainder of the week, you will spend time exploring our Wake Forest and Winston-Salem community through service, meetings with community partners, small group reflections, and evening outings. BUILD days are jam-packed with activities and opportunities to more deeply know other BUILDers and the Winston-Salem community.
BUILD is a great opportunity to serve others while growing life-long friendships. We hope you'll apply to be one of the 2018 BUILDers!

Program Fee and Financial Aid
There is a $350 program fee due upon acceptance into the program. The fee covers housing, transportation, food, and entertainment for the duration of the program. There are a limited number of full and partial scholarships available for applicants in need of financial assistance. If you are in need of a scholarship in order to attend, please answer the question regarding financial aid below and fill in the requested amount. You will be contacted by a program representative to discuss your request. We do our best to fill funding requests, but not all requests for funding are guaranteed to be met. BUILD practices need blind admissions, therefore your application for the program will be considered separate from your request for financial aid.

Please complete the application below by July 15th. BUILD accepts students on a rolling basis, with notification of acceptance sent within 10 days of the application being received. Students will move into their residence hall room starting the morning of Saturday, August 18th, and the program activities will officially begin at 2pm. Specific program details will be available in early August.
