The SHC winter concert, "A Song Full of Hope - African American Sacred Music with Donald Dumpson", Caritas Chamber Chorale and the Apprentice Choir of the Newark Boys Chorus is on March 4, 2018 at 5pm at the Pingry School Hauser Auditorium. Repertoire includes the Gospel Mass by Robert Ray with a jazz orchestra and other incredible motets by Roland Carter and Rollo Dillworth.
The rehearsal schedule is posted as part of the signup below. It is mainly Monday evenings beginning on January 8 with a couple of Friday evenings in February. Rehearsals take place in the Parish Hall at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church.
The Somerset Hills Chorus was developed to help ALL who love to sing become better singers in a supportive yet challenging environment. You do not need to have previous experience. Every effort is made to ensure everyone is comfortable with the music as soon as possible. Seating near an experienced professional is possible during rehearsals, as needed. Music will be emailed as pdf's to those who sign up. Sheet music will be distributed at the first rehearsal and is yours to keep after the concert. Practice sound files will be available for rehearsing your music at home.
Participants are asked to make a suggested donation to MISH (a tax-exempt organization) of $200 if this is your first concert with us this season (second concert is a donation of $150). If that is not possible, we ask you to provide us with a check and you can sell tickets for that amount in lieu of a donation. Chorus members are expected to actively participate in helping MISH fundraise and to actively promote our concerts to family, friends and organizations in the area.
Students between the ages of 14-18 participate for free, but are asked to offer tickets to family and friends as much as possible.
