BHS Opt-out Release and Disclosure of Student Information:  Military Recruiters and JAMRS
Greetings 11th & 12th grade BHS Students & Families,

This form can be completed if you DO NOT WANT your name, date of birth, address, email, and telephone number released to military recruiters or the JAMRS military recruitment study. Please complete the form information below by Monday, October 7th, 2024 at 11:59PM to confirm that you DO NOT WANT your information released. Take note that you must opt out each time you move to a new address, so you may need to fill this out again even if you did it last year.

Release & Disclosure of Student Information

Under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002, school districts are now required to allow the military the same access to high schools and student information as is given to colleges, universities, or institutions of higher learning. Prior to the passing of this legislation, the Berkeley Unified School District did not provide either the military or institutions of higher learning access to the names or addresses of our students. The Board of Education supports this position but also recognizes the responsibility to meet the intention of the law. Therefore, it is your discretion and prerogative to have this information withheld from these agencies should you choose.

By law, the school is obligated to give the names, date of birth, home addresses, email, and phone numbers of juniors and seniors to the US military.  If you DO NOT WANT TO BE CONTACTED YOU MUST COMPLETE THIS FORM by Monday, October 1st, 2024 at 11:59PM. If you DO want to be contacted, do nothing.

Joint Advertising Market Research Studies (JAMRS)

JAMRS stands for the "Joint Advertising Market Research Studies." The JAMRS database is a registry of 30 million Americans between the ages of 16 and 25, funded by the Department of Defense with the goal of maximizing recruitment efforts. The JAMRS database includes information such as name, date of birth, gender, mailing address, e-mail address, race and ethnicity, telephone number, high school name, graduation date, Grade Point Average, college intent, military interest, and field of study.

The JAMRS database is funded by the Department of Defense with the goal of maximizing recruitment efforts. Though your personal information is probably already in the database, you can prevent the release of your info to military recruiters. If you WANT YOUR INFORMATION TO BE REMOVED YOU MUST SUBMIT THIS FORM by Monday, October 1st, 2024 at 11:59PM. If you DO NOT WANT YOUR INFORMATION TO BE REMOVED , do nothing.
