The TALK interest form

My name is Tay Neal, and I’m the founder of The Talk — a barbershop-based mentorship program designed to uplift, guide, and affirm Black and Brown boys in grades 6 through 12.

The Talk is more than just a program. It is a family.

Rooted in the cultural strength of the barbershop, The Talk creates a space where young men are seen, heard, and supported. Each boy, known as a Nephew, is matched with three mentors: a Big Bro (ages 16 to 21), an Uncle (ages 22 and up), and an OG, which stands for Original Gentleman (age 50 and up). These mentors offer layered support by providing advice, accountability, and consistent presence from different generations. We call each other family because the connection is real.

We meet once a month in trusted local barbershops. Each session lasts about 60 to 90 minutes and includes a simple meal or snack. Conversations are open and real, focusing on topics like manhood, emotions, decision-making, community, respect, and resilience. There are no lectures. We talk. And we listen.

To keep the boys motivated and supported, we provide a free haircut at each session. In May, Nephews with strong attendance and engagement will be rewarded with a brand-new pair of Air Jordan 1s. These are more than just shoes. They are a symbol of consistency, self-worth, and recognition.

The Talk is guided by an advisory board made up of experienced experts, community leaders, and education professionals, who bring wisdom, structure, and intentionality to the program. With their support, our curriculum is built around culturally responsive mentorship and includes topics such as:

  • The power of emotional intelligence and self-regulation

  • Setting goals and making wise choices

  • Positive identity and personal values

  • Navigating peer pressure and social media

  • Building respectful relationships with others

  • Financial literacy, career exposure, and legacy-building

We are currently looking for mentors, funders, and partners to help us make this vision a lasting reality. Whether you can offer time, space, financial support, or help connect us to someone who can, we welcome you to be part of this movement.

Please take a moment to fill out our short interest form. Let us know how you would like to get involved or who we should reach out to.

Let’s build the kind of village our boys need and deserve.

With purpose,
Tay Neal
