The Government of the District of Columbia, Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) hosts a local chapter of the FrogWatch USA program, a national effort to monitor frogs and toads and their supporting aquatic habitats. The DOEE FrogWatch chapter was established in 2016 to provide training and support to volunteers as well as review and compile data for submission. In addition to contributing to a nationwide data set dating back to 1998, DOEE FrogWatch chapter volunteers are adding support to local efforts such as the District of Columbia Wildlife Action Plan, Habitat Restoration Program, and Wetland Mapping Project, among others, and become engaged with aquatic resource education and environmental stewardship in and around the District.
Training and review sessions are typically held at the Aquatic Resources Education Center (AREC) in Anacostia Park (1900 Anacostia Drive SE) unless specified otherwise. Please review the "Volunteer Commitments Section" and other resources found on the DOEE FrogWatch webpage (
http://doee.dc.gov/service/frogwatch) as part of the registration process. You may also contact the lead DOEE FrogWatch Coordinator, Rachel Gauza Gronert, at
