The Youth Music Ministry (YMM) is a program within the Department of Sacred Music and will be held as an independent track of the Sacred Music Institute (SMI) from July 13-17, 2016 at the Antiochian Village Heritage & Learning Center.
Youth Music Ministry Mission Statement:
The mission of the Youth Music Ministry is to bring together young Orthodox Christians with a love for music and a desire to serve their Church, to work toward the common goal of understanding the theology of Orthodox hymnography through Choral and Chant settings, to the glory of God.
Participants will study Choral Music, Byzantine Chant, Proper Vocal Production and Technique; they will learn challenging new music to be performed with their peers for the general SMI assembly, and participate in every Divine Service. The intent is to train interested young people to fully understand their role in Sacred Music, and their contribution to the music of the Church, a ministry that will be with them throughout their lives. It brings together the youth of like mind and spirit with a love for music and a desire to serve their Church, working together for a common goal.
As part of this growing program, your participation and experience will help develop a course for future musical training and development of young church musicians. The Department is accepting scholarship applications to defray the cost of tuition, room and board at the YMM/SMI. Those who will be 14-18 years old on August 31, 2016 may apply. Please note, anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Transportation to Antiochian Village is at the expense of the attendee. Contact Chris Farha (email@example.com) for fundraising ideas to offset travel costs.
